Kolkata, Sept. 15 -- The Enforcement Branch (EB) of Kolkata Police conducted surprise raids at Bijoygarh Market, Jadavpur CIT Market and Chakuri Market on Tuesday morning following complaints of rising prices and unfair
pricing practices.
The operation focused on essential commodities, with officers checking price charts, stock records and weighing scales at vegetable, fish and meat stalls.
Particular attention was paid to potatoes, onions and green chillies, whose prices have reportedly risen sharply in recent days. Officials found sugar being sold above the usual rate at Bijoygarh Market.
They also seized three electronic weighing machines - two from Jadavpur CIT Market and one from Bijoygarh.
The EB warned traders of strict legal action, including licence cancellation and stock confiscation, for black marketing or hoarding.
