New Delhi, Oct. 15 -- The Delhi Police on Thursday urged people to stay away from the proposed protest at Connaught Place on Friday, warning of strict action over the use of the national flag and possible disruption of business.
In a statement, the police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in Connaught Place and adjoining areas to maintain peace and protect life and property.
The New Delhi Municipal Council has informed the police that Central Park will remain closed to visitors on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons, and sought security personnel for the sensitive, congested area.
Traders' and market committees have also raised concerns about the potential impact on business during the festive season, the police said, adding that the issue had been raised in the Delhi High Court.
The police told the court that appropriate measures would address these concerns,
while allowing that flag-hoisting and patriotic activities could be held at a suitable venue with due dignity and respect.
