Kolkata, Sept. 11 -- Jharkhand Police on Friday arrested a Kolkata Police traffic sergeant and a woman civic volunteer in connection with the murder of a businessman.
The duo is accused of providing crucial technical support in the contract killing of a Jharkhand-based businessman last month.
The arrested policeman has been identified as Ayan Gupta, a sergeant from the 2014 batch, who was attached to the Beliaghata traffic guard. His associate, Pinkal Das alias Twinkle worked as a civic volunteer. Both were taken into custody after a marathon interrogation by a team of the Jharkhand Police at the Detective Department of Kolkata Police in Lalbazar.
According to sources, the case dates back to August 24, when a 37-year-old hotelier and businessman Nikhil Sablok was shot nine times by contract killers in the Chandil area of Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district. During the investigation, the Jharkhand Police scanned mobile tower logs and call records, which blew the cover off the high-profile links.
Investigators revealed that the hitmen were in constant contact with the Kolkata Police Sergeant and Das. The duo allegedly tracked the victim and shared his live location data with the killers to execute the murder. They are also accused of providing safe shelter to the contract killers in Kolkata after the crime.
