New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- The Delhi Police rescued four people trapped on the third floor of a building after a fire broke out in Baljeet Nagar, police said on Friday.

After the Patel Nagar police station received a PCR call about the incident on Thursday, they dispatched a police team to the affected house on Hill Marg in Patel Nagar.

"With fire tenders facing difficulties reaching the building due to narrow and congested lanes, police personnel, assisted by locals, began rescue and fire-control efforts. Water was arranged from nearby terraces and adjoining houses to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings," a senior police officer said. Police personnel entered the building and rescued four people, despite heavy smoke and intense billowing flames.

The police team doused the fire.

Police said items kept in the house were destroyed, and no casualties were reported.
