Kolkata, June 8 -- Police on Monday conducted a search at a flat reportedly linked to Trinamool Congress leader Aroop Biswas and his brother Swarup Biswas as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to sources, a police team reached the brothers' flat in Sahapur Colony, New Alipore, where Swarup Biswas had been residing with his family. During the search, officers reportedly discovered a concealed room secured with a digital lock.
Sources said Swarup allegedly declined to provide the access code. Police subsequently brought in a locksmith and a carpenter to gain entry to the room. However, till the filing of this report, the lock had not been opened. Investigators are understood to be searching for documents that could be relevant to the case. Swarup Biswas was recently arrested following a complaint lodged by a woman. He faces multiple allegations.
Meanwhile, his elder brother Aroop Biswas was summoned by officers of Bidhannagar South Police Station for questioning in connection with an investigation linked to football star Messi's event. He, however, did not appear before investigators and moved the Calcutta High Court seeking an urgent hearing.
The plea was not entertained, with the court advising him to file an anticipatory bail application instead.
The developments come amid an expanding probe that has already led to the arrest of Swarup Biswas and intensified scrutiny of individuals allegedly connected to the case.
