Raiganj, Aug. 25 -- Several students were injured after police allegedly resorted to lathicharge during a rally organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Daspara, Chopra, North Dinajpur on Tuesday evening. Tension spread in the area following the incident.
CJP leader Firoz Alam alleged that the rally was organised demanding improved school infrastructure and the appointment of adequate teachers. He said, "As we were about to start the peaceful rally, police and central forces allegedly resorted to lathicharge. Several students were injured and police detained two students".
However, a senior police officer of Chopra police station denied that police had carried out any lathicharge. He said the rally had not obtained prior permission from the police.
