New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- The Delhi Police will strengthen its district-wise 'Shishtachar' Anti-Eve Teasing Squads to prevent harassment and other crimes against women in public spaces, officials said on Friday.
A meeting to review the squads' functioning was chaired by the Special Commissioner of Police, SPUWAC, with district DCPs at Police Headquarters.
Officials were directed to identify and regularly map hotspots and vulnerable points and ensure systematic deployment of squads during sensitive timings. The teams will conduct regular patrolling and preventive drives, with personnel rotated to ensure wider coverage. Plain-clothes female personnel may also be deployed as decoys to identify and deter offenders.
Special emphasis was placed on public transport, with squads asked to conduct surprise checks and interact with drivers, conductors and passengers to identify habitual offenders and encourage reporting.
Police will also involve RWAs, MWAs and local volunteers in community-based prevention efforts.
Personnel selected for the squads were directed to remain sensitive and empathetic, while ensuring victims are not subjected to unnecessary public scrutiny. District DCPs will monitor deployments, hotspot coverage and compliance
with guidelines.
