India, July 3 -- The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the Delhi Police arrested a 26-year-old alleged habitual snatcher following a brief exchange of gunfire near Sannoth village in the Narela Industrial Area. The accused, identified as Irshad Ali alias Sukar Ali alias Shankar Ali, a resident of JJ Colony in Bawana, was apprehended after police received a tip-off about his movement and laid a trap in the area. According to the police, Irshad allegedly opened fire while attempting to evade arrest after being asked to surrender. Police retaliated in self-defence, during which he sustained a gunshot injury to his leg. No police personnel were injured. He was initially taken to a hospital in Narela and later referred to a hospital in Rohini. His condition is stated to be stable. Police recovered a stolen Bajaj Vikrant motorcycle from his possession, which was found to be linked to a theft case registered at Narela Police Station. Officials said Irshad has a criminal record involving around 49 cases, including robbery, snatching, theft, attempt to murder, culpable homicide, offences under the Arms Act and assault on a public servant.
