
Kolkata, May 12 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, for approving the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in its first cabinet meeting on May 12.
In a social media post, Modi emphasised that this move ensures top-quality, affordable healthcare for state residents, prioritising their welfare.
He stated that the new "double-engine government" would ensure the smooth implementation of this and other central welfare schemes in the state.
"The welfare of my sisters and brothers of West Bengal is supreme! I am extremely delighted that the people of the state will have access to Ayushman Bharat, the world's largest healthcare scheme that ensures top-quality and affordable healthcare. At the same time, the double-engine government will ensure the seamless implementation of important central projects," Modi said in a post on X.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday announced that the state will implement the Centre's flagship programme under which health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh is provided to each eligible household annually.
