New Delhi, Oct. 3 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will skip the grand Mahalaya celebration at Eden Gardens, with Union Home minister Amit Shah set to attend the October 10 event in Kolkata.

Shah is likely to inaugurate five major pujas, including Sreebhumi Sporting, Suruchi Sangha, Santosh Mitra Square, Chetla Agrani and Tridhara Sammilani. A roadshow featuring 23 makeshift pavilions will be held on Red Road, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari accompanying Shah. The grand programme will be telecast at 35 city locations and feature up to 15,000 dhakis, traditional festivities, 3D projection mapping, fireworks, a drone light show and performances by leading singers and folk artistes.
