New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
The two leaders are expected to discuss key bilateral, regional and global issues during their meeting. Modi will first visit Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30 before travelling to Bishkek for the SCO summit, which is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 1. The upcoming meeting between Modi and Putin comes amid continued engagement between India and Russia on a range of issues. Russian President Putin had earlier expressed his expectation of meeting Modi during the SCO summit. The two countries are also expected to hold their annual bilateral summit later this year in Moscow. India and Russia have maintained close strategic ties, with cooperation spanning areas including trade, energy, defence and other sectors. The upcoming talks are expected to provide an opportunity for the two leaders to review bilateral relations as well as exchange views on regional and international developments.
