
Raiganj, July 27 -- A pharmacist employed at a private nursing home in Chhatparua in North Dinajpur district was arrested and sent to 14 days' judicial custody after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on charges of allegedly attempting to sexually assault a nurse inside
a nursing home.
The accused, identified as Arshad Alam (28), is a resident of Tihan village under Goalpokhar police station. According to police sources, the incident took place when a nurse was changing her clothes in the nurses' changing room of the nursing home after completing her duties.
It is alleged that Alam suddenly entered the room without permission and attempted to sexually assault her.
The nurse immediately raised an alarm, prompting other nursing home staff to rush to the spot. They reportedly overpowered the accused and thrashed him before informing the police. Acting on the information, officers from Karnajora Police Phari under Raiganj police station reached the nursing home, rescued the accused from the agitated staff and took him into custody.
A senior police officer said a formal complaint was lodged by the nurse's family, following which a case was registered on Sunday.
The accused was arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, which remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody. Police said further investigation is underway.
