Chandigarh, Sept. 28 -- The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has directed its field offices to keep disconnections of domestic supply (DS) electricity connections for default in abeyance, providing relief to consumers who have received incorrect or inflated bills amid ongoing billing-system issues.
The decision follows complaints from consumers whose bills were generated on an average or presumptive basis and subsequently reflected as outstanding dues in the system.
According to an order issued by PSPCL's Director (Distribution), the recent strike by meter readers and the ongoing migration from SAP/non-SAP systems to the Oracle-based Smart Billing System (SBS) have contributed to billing discrepancies.
As a result, some consumers received bills that did not match their actual electricity consumption, making their connections liable for disconnection over dues arising from incorrect bills.
PSPCL has directed that no disconnection action be taken in such cases until the SBS is stabilised and erroneous or inflated bills are corrected.
