Lucknow, Sept. 10 -- Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary has kept the question of the party's chief ministerial face for the 2027 Assembly elections open, saying the final decision will be taken by the BJP parliamentary board.
Chaudhary said the party had begun preparations for the crucial polls as it seeks a third consecutive term in the state. He described Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as one of the BJP's faces but stopped short of saying he would be projected as the sole CM candidate.
Asked who would be the party's chief ministerial face, Chaudhary said, "In the BJP, the parliamentary board decides who will be the chief minister."
He named Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among the party's faces for the election.
"Prime Minister Modi is our biggest leader and he will be our face. Chief Minister Yogi ji will also be our face. Rajnath Singh ji is also our face. We will fight the election together. The parliamentary board will decide who will be the chief minister," he said.
Asked if he was also a party face, Chaudhary said leaders contesting elections with the BJP are its faces, while reiterating that the parliamentary board would decide the CM.
He said the BJP was working to address organisational and grassroots-level gaps, asserting that the party's electoral successes were driven by its workers.
The BJP's position leaves the leadership question open ahead of the 2027 contest.
