Kolkata, Sept. 15 -- More than 250 of the 451 private B.Ed colleges served show-cause notices for infrastructural and operational deficiencies are yet to respond, even as admissions for the 2026-28 programme have begun.
The centralised admission process for self-financing colleges under Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University (BSAEU) opened on September 14, with 145 approved institutions currently eligible to admit students. The colleges facing notices have been kept out of the process for now. BSAEU vice-chancellor Arunasis Goswami said around 170-175 colleges had submitted their responses, with September 17 the deadline. The university is verifying the replies and may conduct fresh physical inspections where colleges claim to have rectified infrastructure-related deficiencies.
Goswami said colleges meeting the prescribed criteria could subsequently be included in the admission process, as classes are scheduled to begin on November 3.
The admission portal will remain open until September 24.
The college- and subject-wise merit list will be published on September 30, followed by admissions from October 1 to 3. Classes will commence on November 3.
