New delhi, May 15 -- At least 10 cars and two scooters were gutted when fire broke out at an MCD parking lot in Bihari Colony in the Shahdara area on Friday evening, officials said.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call was received at 4:57 pm, following which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot in East Delhi.

A DFS official said thick black smoke was billowing from the site, which soon turned into a massive blaze engulfing several

parked vehicles.

"At least 10 cars and two scooters were gutted in the fire. Cooling operations were still underway till late evening to ensure that no fresh flare-up took place," the official said.

Firefighters doused the blaze after sustained efforts, police said.

The fire created panic in the locality as flames rapidly spread from one vehicle to another.

However, officials reported no casualties in the incident.

Police also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to facilitate firefighting operations and keep onlookers away from the site.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Officials said a detailed inspection would be carried out after the cooling process is completed.

Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media, showing vehicles engulfed in flames and dense smoke rising from the parking area.

In some videos, loud crackling sounds could also be heard as the fire consumed the vehicles.
