Faridabad, Oct. 11 -- A one-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a tractor carrying a water tanker while playing outside his home in Faridabad's Sector 86, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place around 5 pm on Saturday, two days before the child's first birthday. The tractor driver has been arrested, they said.

The child's father, Jitendra, a native of Madhya Pradesh who works at a construction site in Faridabad, said his son Rahul was playing by the roadside while he was inside their room.

Hearing children shouting outside, Jitendra rushed out and found that his son had been hit by the tractor. The vehicle was being reversed when a wheel ran over Rahul's head, killing him on the spot, he said.

An FIR was registered at the Kheri Pul police station, and the accused driver, identified as Rajkumar, was arrested, police said.

The child's body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination. An investigation into the incident is underway, a senior police officer said.
