Kolkata, Sept. 28 -- West Bengal Agriculture minister Dudh Kumar Mondal on Monday announced changes to the new Krishak Bandhu scheme, restricting benefits to one beneficiary per family and ending the practice under the previous Mamata Banerjee government of allowing multiple members of the same family to receive assistance.
Farmers receiving benefits under the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) will also be excluded from Krishak Bandhu (New).
"Only one beneficiary from a family will be brought under the new Krishak Bandhu scheme from this year. Those who receive benefits under PM Kisan will not be eligible for Krishak Bandhu, and vice versa," Mondal said.
The application deadline has been extended by 10 days for eligible farmers to complete fresh registration. PM-Kisan beneficiaries will receive Rs 9,000 annually, including Rs 6,000 from the Centre and Rs 3,000 from the state.
The agriculture department is verifying beneficiary data and removing fake beneficiaries, income-tax payers and government employees.
