New Delhi, July 30 -- An investigation has been launched after photographs of a question paper from the All Odisha Medical PG Examination were allegedly shared on social media while the test was in progress, officials said on Thursday.
The incident reportedly took place on July 27 during the General Surgery theory paper of the MS/MD course for the 2023-26 batch. Officials said images of the second question paper were circulated in WhatsApp groups created by some postgraduate students. There were also claims that answers were being shared from certain phone numbers while the examination was underway.
The matter surfaced after a postgraduate student of a private medical college in Bhubaneswar reported receiving the images through a WhatsApp group allegedly created by a student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Following the incident, Odisha University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Manas Ranjan Sahoo held a virtual meeting with principals of medical colleges conducting the examinations and advised stricter security arrangements for the remaining papers.
MKCG dean-cum-principal Harekrushna Dalai said the incident could not be called a paper leak because the question paper was allegedly shared from inside the examination hall after the test had begun. "We are surprised despite routine checking and banning mobile phones," he said, adding that an internal inquiry is examining what device was used and how the images were transmitted.
The PG theory examinations began on July 21, with two papers still scheduled on August 1 and 5. A total of 154 students are appearing for the examination at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
