Kolkata, July 10 -- Kolkata Police has carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 33 inspectors, including OCs and additional OCs. The reshuffle has brought changes in the OCs of nearly 20 police stations. The most notable feature of the exercise is the appointment of women officers as OCs of two general police stations in the city after sixteen years.

According to Kolkata Police sources, Inspector Chameli Mukhopadhyay, who was serving as OC of Ultadanga Women's Police Station, has been appointed OC of Sinthee Police Station. She had briefly been posted as OC of Kalighat Police Station ahead of the Assembly elections before the order was changed. Inspector Rupa Singh, who was OC of Tollygunge Women's Police Station, has been appointed the new OC of Sarsuna Police Station.

Rajib Chattopadhyay has been appointed the new OC of Bhowanipore Police Station, while outgoing OC Soumitra Basu has been transferred to the Special Task Force (STF). Mousam Chattopadhyay has been posted as the new OC of Chetla Police Station, Amit Chattopadhyay, who was the IC of Uttar Kashipur Police Station, has been appointed OC of Park Street Police Station, and Gautam Ruj has been given charge as the new OC of Bhangar Police Station.

Earlier this month, IPS-level changes were also carried out. Jafar Azmal Kidwai, Deputy Commissioner of the Reserve Force, was appointed Joint Commissioner of Police, while STF Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Yadav was posted as Deputy Commissioner of the Fourth Battalion.

Meanwhile, two Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been suspended for alleged violation of an order by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Ajay Nand, regarding commenting and posting content on social media. The suspended officers have been identified as Bidhan Saha, who was serving as DC North-3, and Partha Pratim Das, the DC Port-2.

The disciplinary action was initiated following a formal directive issued on Friday evening. According to sources, the drastic move comes in the wake of highly controversial and objectionable comments posted by the two officers on social media. Though the comments were made about a year ago, but it was spotted on Friday, following which the action was taken.
