Raiganj, Oct. 13 -- Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Krishna Singha Roy Chowdhury was elected the new Sabhadhipati of North Dinajpur Zilla Parishad at a meeting held at the Zilla Parishad office on Tuesday. Of the 26 members of the Zilla Parishad, 24 attended the meeting and unanimously elected her to the post.
The post had remained vacant for around five months after the resignation of the then Sabhadhipati, Pampa Paul, following a change of power in the state. In the absence of a Sabhadhipati, the functioning of the Zilla Parishad and delivery of public services were reportedly affected.
Considering the difficulties, district administration officials held discussions and took steps to elect a new Sabhadhipati to ensure the smooth functioning of the elected body.
After her election, Krishna Singha Roy Chowdhury said: "24 members out of the total 26 attended the meeting.
All of them elected me as Sabhadhipati. I am committed to bringing development to every corner of the district with the cooperation of all members."
Ghulam Rusul, Sahakari Sabhadhipati of the Zilla Parishad, said: "All board members continued to be associated with the TMC and had not yet joined any faction, including the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC or Democratic TMC. We sought cooperation from the ruling party and district administration officials to accelerate development across North Dinajpur."
