Noida, Sept. 22 -- Police recovered a knife allegedly used to kill a 24-year-old woman from Assam during the six-hour custodial interrogation of the accused, officials said on Tuesday. The weapon was found in bushes near a drain behind Neo Hospital in Sector 49, where police said the accused had disposed of it.
Mahak was found dead at a PG in Baraula village on August 8. Police arrested Raman in connection with the murder and secured six hours' custody to question him and recover evidence.
During questioning, Raman allegedly told police that he and Mahak had consumed alcohol before an argument broke out after she asked him for a matchbox to light a cigarette. Police said the disagreement escalated after he refused and told her to smoke outside.
Raman allegedly claimed Mahak threatened to implicate him in a false rape case before the two became involved in a physical altercation. Police said he took a knife from her and stabbed her multiple times. The recovery will form part of the evidence submitted before court, officials said.
