Noida, May 15 -- Noida Authority has decided to cut fuel consumption of its official vehicles and machinery by 20 per cent following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for energy conservation amid rising global fuel prices and the ongoing energy crisis triggered by tensions in West Asia.
Officials said the decision was taken in line with the Centre's call for reducing fuel consumption and promoting sustainable practices. The order, issued on Friday by the authority's chief executive officer,Krishna Karunesh, applies to all light and heavy vehicles as well as machines operated by the authority on a daily basis.
According to officials, the move is aimed at ensuring efficient fuel use and supporting national efforts to deal with increasing crude oil prices in the international market.
The authority has directed departments to monitor daily fuel usage and implement measures to ensure the targeted reduction is achieved without affecting essential civic operations.
The initiative comes after PM Modi, while addressing a public gathering in Secunderabad, urged citizens to use public transport, adopt car-pooling and shift towards electric vehicles to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel.
He also appealed to households to cut down edible oil consumption and encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices to reduce dependence on imported fertilisers.
Following the Prime Minister's remarks, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath also appealed to state departments and residents to contribute towards fuel conservation.
Meanwhile, the Centre on Friday increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre across the country, citing pressure from rising global crude oil prices. Officials said the latest measures are part of broader efforts to promote energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption at institutional and public levels.
