Noida, July 5 -- A 49-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from an upper floor of a multilevel parking facility in Sector 18 on Saturday afternoon. Police are reconstructing her final movements using CCTV footage, though the exact point from which she jumped remains unclear as there are no surveillance cameras covering that area.
The deceased, identified as Situ Talwar, was a resident of Sector 20. She is survived by her husband, Mohit Talwar, a retired Indian Air Force Wing Commander who now runs a business, and their son, a Class XII student at a private school in Noida.
According to investigators, Situ arrived at the Sector 18 parking complex in an e-rickshaw at around 2 pm. CCTV footage shows her entering the six-storey parking facility and proceeding towards the upper levels. Police said she spent a few minutes inside before allegedly jumping.
Passersby alerted the police through the Dial 112 emergency helpline. Officers rushed to the spot and shifted her to a private hospital in Sector 27, where she was declared brought dead.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noida Zone I) Praveen Singh said preliminary inquiries revealed that the woman had been undergoing treatment for depression at a private hospital in Delhi for nearly 20 years. Her family, however, told investigators that she had never previously attempted suicide.
Police said the investigation is focused on reconstructing her movements inside the parking facility. In the absence of CCTV coverage at the suspected jump site, officers are relying on footage from entry and exit points and other sections of the building.
Officials suspect she jumped from either the first or second floor, though this has not yet been confirmed. No complaint had been lodged by the family till Sunday evening. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are under way.
