Noida, July 9 -- Three migrant labourers from Bihar were killed after a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly ran them over while they were returning on foot from paddy fields in Jewar late on Wednesday night, police said.

The deceased were identified as Karan, Vishwajeet and Mithun, all residents of Jamua village under Tarabari police station in Bihar's Araria district. The trio had travelled to Neemka village in Gautam Buddh Nagar to work as seasonal agricultural labourers during the paddy transplantation season.

According to police, the labourers had spent the day transplanting paddy in fields at Neemka village. After completing their shift late on Wednesday night, they began walking back to the village along the Jewar-Khurja road.

As they were returning, a Scorpio SUV, allegedly travelling at high speed from the Jewar side, struck them from behind. The impact threw all three onto the road, leaving them with fatal injuries. Passers-by alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Kailash Hospital in Jewar, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Jewar Station House Officer Ajay Kumar Singh said the victims had been engaged in paddy transplantation work in Neemka village and were returning after work when the accident occurred.

Police conducted the inquest proceedings and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The victims' families in Bihar have been informed.

A case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify and trace the Scorpio driver. Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and collecting evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
