Maligaon, Oct. 29 -- Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava on Thursday inaugurated upgraded facilities at Kamakhya railway station, covering the station building, platforms, reserve lounge, concourse, circulating area and approach roads.
The improvements include dedicated traffic lanes, a covered pick-up and drop-off portico and a double-lane exit road to ease vehicular movement and reduce congestion. The reserve lounge has been upgraded with better lighting, ventilation, air-conditioning, furniture, toilets and pantry facilities, with its seating capacity doubled.
An integrated passenger information system, improved announcement facilities and Wi-Fi connectivity have also been introduced.
Platform No. 4 has received improved flooring, new colour-coated roofing sheets and wider gutters for rainwater drainage. Previously uncovered areas between the foot overbridge and platform shelters have also been covered. Passenger seating capacity has increased from 150 to 360. Two drinking-water booths for Divyangjan passengers and five additional booths for other passengers have been installed.
Dedicated cable ducts and concealed piping have been provided after replacing the old, damaged water-supply pipeline.
