Kolkata, Oct. 28 -- Kolkata Police have arrested Saba Zafar, the final remaining accused in the New Market hotel fire case.

Saba, wife of hotel leaseholder Abu Zafar, was arrested by a special team of the Detective Department from Shibpur in Howrah. The fire broke out late on August 18 at Hotel Shikha Inn on Mirza Ghalib Street, claiming nine lives, including seven Bangladeshi nationals, and leaving several others severely injured.

According to police sources, Saba had been absconding since the incident. She allegedly fled the state immediately after the fire and hid at multiple locations in Uttar Pradesh to evade arrest. Acting on a tip-off that she was returning to the city, police laid a trap in Howrah and took her into custody.

With her arrest, all the primary accused in the case have been apprehended. Police had earlier arrested hotel owner Bireshwar Mitra from his residence in Behala, while leaseholder Abu Zafar was arrested from the Entally market area.
