Kolkata, Aug. 28 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday evening interacted with the family members of those missing in the Nepal tragedy and assured them of all necessary assistance from the state government.
The online meeting was held from the West Bengal Police (WBP) headquarters at Bhabani Bhavan in the presence of Director General of Police (DGP) Siddh Nath Gupta and other senior officials.
During the meeting, family members of those missing said their near and dear ones had travelled to the Chinese border for immigration when the natural calamity struck. People from several parts of the state, mostly from South Bengal, urged the Chief Minister to trace their family members and make arrangements for their safe return.
While speaking to the family members of the missing persons, Adhikari assured them that the state government was doing everything possible and urged them not to lose hope. He also said that the administration was in constant touch with the Centre over the issue.
The Chief Minister further directed the heads of the concerned police units, along with the OCs and ICs of local police stations, to remain in touch with the distressed families and take care of their needs and priorities.
During his interaction with the family members of two persons from Basirhat who are stranded in Kathmandu, Adhikari was informed that they would board a train on Saturday. On hearing this, the Chief Minister directed the Superintendent of Police (SP), Basirhat, to arrange flight tickets and bring them back as soon as possible, as travelling by train in the prevailing situation could be more exhausting.
The devastating flash floods in Nepal have left families across Bengal anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones. At least 32 people from the state, including 21 senior citizens, remain untraceable after a Kailash-Mansarovar group lost contact near Rasuwagadhi while travelling towards Tibet.
