New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday introduced what it described as Delhi's first fully CNG-powered, truck-mounted mechanical road sweeper to strengthen mechanised sanitation and curb road dust pollution.

Virender Singh Kadian, MLA and NDMC member, flagged off the machine from Palika Kendra in the presence of NDMC Secretary Rahul Singh and other senior officials. The machine has been provided through the MLA Local Area Development Fund. The road sweeper has a dust hopper capacity of six cubic metres and is equipped with rotating side brushes, a dust and debris collection system and water sprinklers to suppress dust during cleaning. It is designed to collect road dust, sand, gravel, stones and dry vegetation, reducing the resuspension of dust and potentially improving air quality.
