New Delhi, May 12 -- New Delhi Municipal Council Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Tuesday conducted inspections across several waterlogging-prone areas in the national capital to assess monsoon preparedness and review ongoing civic infrastructure works, including redevelopment projects at Khan Market.
Accompanied by senior officials from the civil, electrical, horticulture, health and road departments, Chahal visited Bharti Nagar, Golf Links, Tughlaq Lane and Pandara Road to evaluate preventive measures being undertaken ahead of the monsoon season. He directed officials to ensure timely completion of desilting and drainage-related works while maintaining coordination among departments for prompt response during heavy rainfall.
According to NDMC officials, the first phase of desilting operations was completed by March 31, while the second phase is expected to conclude by June 15. During the initial phase, NDMC cleaned 7,888 bell mouths, 4,833 gully traps and 8,913 manholes across multiple divisions to strengthen the drainage network and minimise waterlogging. Later, Chahal conducted a midnight inspection of sanitation and redevelopment works at Khan Market, one of the capital's busiest commercial centres. He reviewed night sweeping operations and assessed progress on pavement improvement, drainage works and granite flooring installation. NDMC stated that redevelopment works at the main entrance of Khan Market on Subramanium Bharti Marg have reached nearly 95 per cent completion, while footpath and middle-lane improvement projects remain underway. Chahal said the civic body aims to improve cleanliness, accessibility and urban infrastructure in line with the vision of a modern and resilient capital city.
