Kolkata, June 29 -- The closed Naihati Jute Mill is set to resume operations from July 3, bringing relief to nearly 2,500 workers who lost their jobs after the unit shut down on June 6.

The decision was taken at a tripartite meeting held at the New Secretariat Building in Kolkata on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by state Labour minister Arjun Singh and attended by MoS Bhaskar Bhattacharya, representatives of the mill management and workers' unions, and senior Labour Department officials, including Special Labour Commissioner Ashis Sarkar, Additional Labour Commissioner Rajat Pal and Barrackpore Deputy Labour Commissioner Manoj Kumar Saha.

After prolonged deliberations, both the management and the workers' representatives reached a consensus to restart operations at the mill from July 3. Alliance Mills (Lessee) Ltd. at Jagatdal reopened on June 17, while the Kankinara Jute Mill will reopen on July 1.

The revival of the Naihati Jute Mill is part of the government's efforts to resolve industrial disputes through dialogue. The minister urged both the management and the workers to maintain a cordial industrial atmosphere, saying that safeguarding workers' interests and promoting industrial growth should go hand in hand.
