Kolkata, Nov. 6 -- Naihati's iconic Borma Kali temple has replaced its long-standing tagline, 'Dharma jar jar, Boroma sobar' (Religion is one's own, Borma belongs to all), with a new slogan, 'Boromaye bhakti, Sanatane shakti' (Devotion to Borma, strength of Sanatan Dharma), ahead of Kali Puja.
The new tagline was formally unveiled at a programme on the temple premises in the presence of Naihati MLA Sumitra Chattopadhyay and office-bearers and members of the Boroma Kali Puja Samiti.
While some devotees have welcomed the change, others feel the earlier slogan was more inclusive and reflected the temple's universal appeal, drawing people irrespective of religion and community.
The temple authorities have denied any political connection to the decision, maintaining that the change followed repeated requests from devotees and various organisations. Committee spokesperson Ananta Chattopadhyay said applications had been received from several Hindu organisations, devotees and people from different parts of the state seeking a new tagline that reflected Sanatan traditions.
"The puja is rooted in Sanatan tradition, and devotees wanted that aspect to find a place in the temple's tagline. Their sentiments could not be ignored," he said.
He added that the new slogan was finalised after discussions with several prominent personalities and a decision by the temple committee.
Naihati MLA Sumitra Chattopadhyay also maintained that the decision had nothing to do with the change of government in the state, describing it as a response to a long-standing demand from devotees and local residents.
