Kolkata, Nov. 2 -- After witnessing rainfall on Monday afternoon, Kolkata and several other parts of South Bengal are likely to receive further spells of rain under the influence of severe cyclonic storm Murasu, which is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that there is no weather warning for Bengal in connection with the system.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Murasu is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm between midnight on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday. The landfall is likely to take place between Nellore and Narsapur, south of Ongole, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.

Despite the system's considerable distance from Bengal, its peripheral impact is likely to trigger rainfall across parts of the state. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at one or two places in North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia on Tuesday.

Other districts of South Bengal are likely to experience dry weather. In North Bengal, light rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, while the remaining districts are likely to remain dry.

The weather is expected to improve from Wednesday, with dry conditions likely to prevail across both North and South Bengal until November 9.
