Kolkata, Sept. 23 -- A day after clashes in Mukundapur, the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress on Wednesday alleged police non-cooperation in dealing with the violence, claiming that no arrests had been made while party workers who went to lodge complaints were detained.
MLA Kunal Ghosh said no one had been arrested in connection with Tuesday's incidents, while Baishwanar Chattopadhyay, Srideep Das and others who went to lodge complaints were detained. Ghosh said when he tried to reach the police station, he was asked not to come to avoid further confrontation.
"If the police cannot handle the BJP mob, then what was their role?" Ghosh asked.
The party also alleged that its complaint was not accepted on Tuesday. Youth wing leader Priyanka Chowdhury said officers initially came to receive the complaint but left after receiving a call.
However, Mamata faction leader Humayun Kabir told Millennium Post that he later lodged a complaint by email and subsequently went to the police station on Wednesday to submit a physical copy.
Meanwhile, a fresh allegation emerged from Mukundapur, where MAITC worker Jharna Devi, who had participated in Tuesday's rally, was allegedly attacked. Her family claimed unidentified attackers entered their home and assaulted her husband, Shankar, breaking his teeth.
