New Delhi, Sept. 10 -- The Ministry of Civil Aviation is looking to diversify India's growing aerospace manufacturing ecosystem with more participation from Indian MSMEs as the sector is set to nearly double from over $30 billion in 2025 to $61 billion
by 2035.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said at the CII and Ministry's VORTEX 2026 initiative on Thursday that India's growing aviation market and aircraft orders offered a huge opportunity for domestic manufacturers to enter the global aerospace supply chains.
India's commercial aviation fleet is set to more than double to around 2,050 aircraft by 2035 & Indian carriers currently have an order book of around 1,640 aircraft.
The minister said that this could mean a need for nearly 80 crore parts and components and passenger traffic is expected to grow at 8.9 per cent annually through 2035, the fastest among major economies.
Naidu said that India's automobile components and mobile phone manufacturing sectors have grown leaps and bounds and can be a model for aerospace.
He said that MSME exports had grown three times from around Rs 4 lakh crore in 2021 to Rs 12.4 lakh crore in 2025 with more than 1.73 lakh MSMEs exporting directly.
Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said that India's operational airports had grown from 74 in 2014 to 166 and its aircraft fleet from around 350 to approximately 874. Over 2,000 aircraft are expected to join the Indian fleet over the next two decades.
Sinha said that Indian MSMEs and start-ups currently supplied aircraft components worth over $4 billion annually to global original equipment manufacturers, while the domestic aerospace manufacturing market could become a $10-billion industry over the next decade.
Boeing India and South Asia President Salil Gupte said that Boeing had 300 Indian supplier partners, of which 25 per cent were MSMEs. Gupte said that now the challenge was to scale up India's aerospace manufacturing.
