New Delhi/Vapi, Sept. 24 -- Indian Medical Parliamentarians' Forum (IMPF) led National Policy Summit recently advocated that India needs to move beyond medical technology innovation to ensure evidence-based adoption, sustainable financing and equitable access to advanced healthcare technologies.
MedTech Access was organised by the IMPF, held at Meril Academy in Vapi on Wednesday, under the theme "Swasth Bharat Se Saksham Bharat". The summit brought together parliamentarians, senior government officials, healthcare institutions, clinicians and industry representatives to deliberate on strengthening India's medical technology ecosystem.
The summit was chaired by Rajya Sabha MP and IMPF Chairperson Anil Sukhdeorao Bonde. Senior representatives from the Department of Pharmaceuticals, ICMR, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Health Authority, AIIMS Nagpur and NHSRC participated in the discussions. The deliberations focused on two key challenges - building a globally competitive domestic MedTech ecosystem and ensuring that technological advances translate into wider patient access.
The first panel examined research and development, regulation, quality standards, domestic manufacturing, industry-academia collaboration and supply-chain resilience. The second focused on clinical evidence, health technology assessment, financing, reimbursement, technology adoption and workforce capabilities.
"Innovation without access has limited impact, and access without evidence cannot be sustained," Bonde said, calling for stronger indigenous R&D, credible clinical evidence, appropriate health technology assessment and sustainable reimbursement mechanisms.
The summit also underscored the need to strengthen regulation, clinical adoption and training while expanding access to advanced medical technologies, particularly in underserved regions.
