Kolkata, June 9 -- The Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja Committee has appointed Bengal Cabinet minister Tapas Roy as chairman. The appointment came at a significant juncture as the Puja committee prepares to celebrate its 58th year of its celebration.

Established in 1969, Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park has earned widespread acclaim for its grand thematic presentations, magnificent architectural recreations, and meaningful social initiatives. Over the decades, the Puja has emerged as one of the most visited and celebrated Durga Pujas in Kolkata, attracting lakhs of devotees and visitors from across the country and beyond.

It was also learnt that PM Modi may visit Bengal during Puja and offer 'anjali' on the occasion of Maha Ashtami, on October 19 this year.

One of the city's most iconic Durga Puja organisers also announced the appointment of Binay Dubey, a social worker, as its vice-chairman. Speaking on the occasion, Surendra Kr. Sharma, general secretary, said: "This Puja has always stood as a symbol of creativity, cultural excellence, and community spirit. As we prepare to celebrate our 58th year, we are delighted to welcome Tapas Roy as our chairman and Shri Binay Dubey as our vice-chairman."
