Kolkata, May 14 -- Mission-run institutions dominated the Higher Secondary examination merit list this year, accounting for 40 of the 64 rank holders, as the overall pass percentage rose to 91.23%, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education announced on Thursday.

Out of 6,26,258 candidates who appeared, 5,71,355 passed.

Adrito Pal of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya secured the first position in the state with 496 out of 500 marks.

Among girls, Megha Majumder of Serampore Rames Chandra Girls' High School emerged as the highest scorer with 492 marks, placing fifth overall. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari later spoke to Adrito and Megha over video calls and assured support for their higher education.

The second position was shared by Jishnu Kundu of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia and Ritobrata Nath and Aitihya Pachhal of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, all with 495 marks.

Five students secured the third position with 494 marks - Debapriya Majee, Tanmoy Mandal and Pritam Ballav of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia; Soumya Roy of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya; and Subhayan Mondal of Suri Public and Chandragati Mustafi Memorial High School.

The merit list includes 56 boys and eight girls. South 24-Parganas accounted for the highest number of rank holders at 19, including 18 from Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, followed by Purulia with 17, all from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith. Together, the two institutions contributed 35 of the 64 students in the top 10 ranks.

Other Ramakrishna Mission-Sarada Mission institutions in the merit list included Mahesh Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Vidyalaya, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Vidyamandir, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls' School, Sree Sarada Ashrama Balika Vidyalaya and Baranagore Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School.

Science recorded the highest stream-wise pass percentage at 99.19%, followed by Commerce (93.67%) and Arts (89.19%).

East Midnapore recorded the highest district-wise pass percentage at 94.19%, followed by Howrah (93.84%) and South 24 Parganas (93.71%).
