Balurghat, Aug. 27 -- A birthday party at a flat in Balurghat has come under police scrutiny after three minor girls from a rural area on the outskirts of the town allegedly stayed in the flat, with one of them later alleging that the other two were drugged and sexually assaulted.
According to police and local sources, the three girls left home together on Saturday afternoon and reportedly went to the flat of a teenage boy in Balurghat for his birthday party. Several other teenagers were allegedly present at the gathering.
One of the girls told her family that her two friends were allegedly given an unidentified substance and rendered unconscious.
She further alleged that attempts were made to sexually assault them. When the two girls resisted, they were allegedly kept inside the flat for two days.
The two minors returned home on Monday and subsequently narrated the incident to their families. A complaint was then lodged with Balurghat police. Police are collecting statements from the minors and others allegedly present at the party. Investigators are also examining the location, circumstances and other evidence to ascertain the facts behind the allegations.
