New Delhi, Nov. 7 -- A 16-year-old girl allegedly threw her newborn daughter out of a nursing home washroom window in Uttarpara, Hooghly, minutes after giving birth on Saturday, leading to the baby's death.
The teenager reportedly had been admitted late on Friday night after complaining of severe abdominal pain. Police said she delivered the baby without assistance while using the washroom. The newborn was found in a pool of blood by a passerby, but a nurse who rushed to the spot found her dead.
The girl's family claimed they were unaware of her pregnancy. Nursing home authorities said they had questioned the family about the possibility of pregnancy at the time of admission.
Police are examining CCTV footage and questioning family members. A post-mortem is likely to be conducted. Locals alleged that similar incidents had occurred at the nursing home earlier.
