New Delhi, May 15 -- As part of the Delhi Government's push for fuel conservation and sustainable mobility, several ministers on Friday adopted public transport and electric vehicles to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for responsible energy use amid rising global fuel concerns.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh arrived at an event at the NDMC office on a battery-powered bicycle, describing the move as a symbolic but necessary step towards fuel conservation. He said responsible governance must be reflected not only in policies but also in personal conduct. "The Prime Minister's message is the need of the hour. The more we save today, the more secure our future will be," he said, urging citizens to reduce fuel consumption and make greater use of public transport.
The minister also reiterated the Delhi Government's advisory encouraging work-from-home arrangements wherever possible to reduce traffic congestion and fuel usage.
Meanwhile, Delhi Minister for Art, Culture & Languages, Tourism and Labour Kapil Mishra drove an electric vehicle to the Delhi Secretariat to spread awareness about energy conservation. He said initiatives such as "Metro Monday", promotion of EVs, two days of work from home, and reduced use of private vehicles were being actively encouraged under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Mishra added that several traders and industrialists in Delhi had expressed support for implementing work-from-home and EV policies.
Industries and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also joined the campaign by travelling to the Delhi Secretariat using the Metro and an electric vehicle under the "Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan" initiative. Sirsa said smaller official convoys, public transport, and EV adoption were essential to reduce fuel consumption, ease the economic burden caused by rising crude oil prices, and strengthen India's
self-reliance.
