Raiganj, Nov. 4 -- State Tourism minister Shankar Ghosh on Wednesday sought suggestions from experts and local residents for developing infrastructure at Raiganj Kulik Bird Sanctuary to attract more tourists to the district.

The minister visited the sanctuary in the morning and later met residents and media persons at Karnajora Circuit House, where he invited proposals for the development of the popular tourist destination. He said suggestions could be submitted through the state Tourism department's website or routed through local MLAs and the MP. The department would give priority to suitable proposals, he added.

"We have also decided to undertake multiple development initiatives at the famous Kulik Bird Sanctuary. We urge experts and local residents of North Dinajpur district to submit their proposals," Ghosh said. Situated on the western bank of the Kulik River near Raiganj town, the sanctuary covers approximately 1.3 square kilometre and is regarded as the second-largest bird sanctuary in Asia.

Meanwhile, the minister held a meeting with administrative officials at Karnajora to review arrangements for a peaceful Kali Puja. Referring to the Chorbazar incident during Durga Puja, the minister said: "Officials would inspect all Kali Puja pandals to check electrical installations, entry and exit points, and crowd management arrangements to prevent accidents."
