Kolkata, Aug. 25 -- State Labour minister Arjun Singh on Tuesday assured that the quality of healthcare and necessary facilities for workers would be improved at the Central Hospital for Beedi Workers in Dhulian, Murshidabad.
Singh inspected the hospital, including the dispensary, operation theatre and wards, and interacted with patients about the services and shortcomings.
The visit assumes significance as Murshidabad has a large number of beedi workers exposed to prolonged sitting, repetitive postures and tobacco dust, leaving them vulnerable to musculoskeletal, respiratory and eye-related ailments.
Hospital superintendent Dr Atul Singh briefed the minister on the services provided.
"The health, safety and welfare of workers remain among our foremost priorities," Singh said.
The Labour Welfare Organisation runs the hospital under the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.
