Kolkata, June 8 -- Bengal Minister of State (Independent Charge) and MLA Behala West Indranil Khan, on Monday, set a June deadline for repair of the Taratala Road that connects Behala, Maheshtala and Budge Budge with Kolkata. The road is presently in shambles and accident-prone.
"The repair work started eight months back, but progressed at a snail's pace. The executing agency claimed that the traffic block was hardly allowed by the police authorities, with TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, as well as former minister Firhad Hakim, often using the stretch. I have made it clear that with the monsoon season likely to set in soon, work should be completed within this month," Khan said.
He inspected the road personally on Monday and posted a video of an official from the executing agency stating the reason behind the delay in work. A few days back, Khan had held a meeting with the authorities of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (the custodian of the road) and enquired about the inordinate delay in the road repair.
Khan has issued instructions of forming a task force with the police, port authorities, KMC and the executing agency and carrying out work on a war footing to rejuvenate the road by this month.
He spoke with various hawkers in his locality and urged them to remove their stalls.
