New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has regularised the services of 501 sanitation workers who had been serving the civic body for several years, the Mayor's office said on Sunday.

Mayor Pravesh Wahi congratulated the workers and said the decision would provide them and their families with greater employment stability and social

security.

He said the move recognised the contribution of sanitation workers to maintaining cleanliness across the national capital.

"Sanitation workers are the backbone of Delhi's cleanliness system," Wahi said, adding that the civic body had a responsibility to honour their contribution and safeguard their interests.

The Mayor said the MCD had recently regularised the services of 296 sanitation workers and described the latest decision as part of the Corporation's continued efforts towards the welfare of its sanitation workforce.

He said sanitation workers worked daily under challenging conditions and played a vital role in keeping Delhi clean.

Ensuring that they received their rightful entitlements and benefits was among the Corporation's priorities,

he added.

The Mayor's office said the regularisation was not merely an administrative decision but also a recognition of the workers' years of service and

dedication.

The move is expected to provide the employees and their families with a more stable employment framework and a stronger social security base.

Wahi said the Corporation would continue to pursue measures concerning the welfare and interests of its employees with priority and sensitivity.
