New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has regularised the services of 296 daily-wage sanitation workers who have been serving the civic body for several years, Mayor Pravesh Wahi said on Tuesday.
According to the MCD, the decision was taken on the recommendations of the Zonal Screening Committees and concerned officers. Of the 296 workers, 160 who were ordinarily working between April 1, 1998 and March 31, 2000 have been granted regularisation with effect from April 1, 2006. The remaining 136 workers, who were working between April 1, 2000 and March 31, 2002, have been granted the benefit of regularisation with effect from April 1, 2008.
Wahi said the decision would provide greater employment security and stability to the workers and benefit their families. He said sanitation workers played an important role in maintaining cleanliness in Delhi and continued to work under challenging conditions. The MCD said the regularisation process had been undertaken in accordance with the prescribed rules and recommendations of the screening committees.
