India, Aug. 22 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday launched a special anti-mosquito drive to cover around 75 km of railway tracks and adjoining areas in the capital, targeting waterlogged spots and other potential breeding sites during monsoon. According to an official statement, Mayor Pravesh Wahi flagged off the 'Mosquito Terminator Train-2026' (MTT-2026) from New Delhi Railway Station as part of the joint vector-control initiative of the MCD and Northern Railway. The campaign will involve anti-larvae treatment of low-lying and waterlogged areas along railway tracks, with power spray tankers deployed to reach locations that are difficult to access manually, the civic body said. "During the monsoon, accumulation of water around railway tracks and in low-lying areas increases the possibility of mosquito breeding. The key objective is to break the mosquito breeding cycle at its initial stage," the statement said quoting Wahi. The campaign is scheduled to continue till September, with zonal health teams and Northern Railway coordinating the anti-larvae operations.
