New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will prepare ward-wise sanitation action plans and reduce the city's dependence on conventional community bins as part of efforts to strengthen solid waste management, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar said on Wednesday.
Khirwar directed Zonal Deputy Commissioners to assess sanitation arrangements in every ward and identify facilities within 5-6 km for decentralised treatment of biodegradable waste through biogas, compressed biogas, composting and other technologies.
Different waste collection models will be adopted for residential societies, unauthorised colonies, congested streets, slums, hospitals, markets and institutional areas.
MCD will deploy smaller vehicles in narrow lanes, reduce community bins, make markets bin-free and expand night sweeping, mechanised cleaning
and zero-waste colonies. mpost
