India, July 28 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has directed all its zonal offices to complete civic and public health arrangements ahead of the Kanwar Yatra 2026, with camps across the Capital set to become operational from July 30, the first day of the Shravana month, until Shivratri on August 11. The directions were issued through an office memorandum by Additional Commissioner (DEMS) Arun K. Mishra following a high-level meeting chaired by Delhi Minister for Law and Justice, Labour, Employment and Development Reforms. Senior officials from the MCD, Revenue Department, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and Delhi Police attended the meeting.
According to the memorandum, Kanwar camps will primarily be established at 308 existing locations, with additional sites to be set up wherever required. The MCD has instructed all Deputy Commissioners of its zones to coordinate with the respective District Magistrates, who have been designated as nodal officers for issuing no-objection certificates and overseeing arrangements. The civic body has asked its zonal offices to remove encroachments from all camp sites before the yatra begins and ensure deep cleaning, scavenging and removal of vegetation. Sanitation services are to be maintained round the clock through deployment of workers and machinery in three shifts. The memorandum also directs authorities to undertake extensive fumigation before and during the pilgrimage and implement preventive measures against water-borne and vector-borne diseases. The MCD has also directed the closure of unauthorised meat shops along Kanwar routes and around camps, while mobile dispensaries will provide medical assistance at larger camps.
