India, July 28 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday intensified its crackdown on unauthorised construction and the misuse of residential properties by carrying out demolition and sealing drives across the Karol Bagh Zone. The enforcement action, undertaken by the Building Department under the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act and applicable building by-laws, targeted illegal structural additions in Punjabi Bagh and residential properties being used for commercial purposes in parts of Karol Bagh. In Punjabi Bagh, civic officials demolished unauthorised reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roof slab panels at the ground floor level and removed illegally constructed walls and columns on the first floor. Reinforcement bars were cut using gas cutters as part of the operation. The demolition was carried out with assistance from the local police and the MCD demolition squad.
Separately, the civic body launched a sealing drive in East Patel Nagar, West Patel Nagar, South Patel Nagar and Ranjeet Nagar against the unauthorised commercial use of residential properties. According to the MCD, 11 properties were sealed at multiple access points for violating land-use and building regulations. The action covered basement and ground-floor premises where commercial establishments, including libraries, were found operating from residential buildings in violation of prescribed norms. The Corporation said the drive forms part of its ongoing efforts to enforce sanctioned building plans and ensure compliance with land-use regulations across the Capital. Appealing to residents to follow approved building and land-use norms, the MCD warned that violations of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act and related regulations would invite strict action, including demolition of unauthorised structures and sealing of premises wherever necessary.
